Our clients purchased this site high on a ridge overlooking Lake Austin and the Pennybacker Bridge. The property came with a house which proved ill-matched to their needs but which nestled neatly amid beautiful live oaks.
This project is a remodel-addition of a mid-century home in Austin’s Barton Hills neighborhood. The one-story, L-shaped house built circa 1953 originally had two bedrooms, a kitchen, a small bath, and separate living and dining rooms.
Located in Rollingwood, West Austin, this 3700 square foot custom home was designed by Chioco Design for a family of four. The design consists of interlocking linear, rectangular forms using local gray Lueders limestone
The convenient location of this large lot in west Austin attracted the new owners, but the 1980’s era suburban brick house that existed on the property didn’t align with their modern aesthetic, nor did it take advantage of the wooded natural setting.

Like a butterfly specimen pinned to its mounting, this sinuous lake-front home’s light floating roofs are anchored to its site by heavy rusticated limestone masses, while its horizontal footprint is spread out and sewn through the vertical punctuation of mature sycamore, cypress and pecan trees
Completed in 2015, this contemporary farmhouse mixes Scandinavian driven design with midcentury modern and bohemian accents. The color palette was inspired by two abstract paintings in the living room.
