Ark-shelter was asked to build a cluster of forest apartments for hotel Bjornson. The investor had a clear idea of one side oriented double cabins, placed in the surrounding of the main hotel building, which made our design solution relatively straightforward.
The Bainbridge Island Farmhouse has been designed so that the owners can “age in place” with wide corridors and doorways, a one-floor living area, and an abundance of natural light.
At the end of a long, sinuous road elevated high above the city in Portland’s beloved Forest Park, the Royal residence is perched elegantly at the coveted ecotone of forest and city along Royal Boulevard.
A family with two young boys, wanted a vacation house built on undeveloped land near Acadia National Park. The property is in a remote forest at the end of a peninsula, with eastern views to the mountains and western views across Somes Sound.
This additions project is located amongst jarrah and peppermint forest and grafts a contemporary pavilion onto an existing timber framed and clad house. The new work consists of a reading / living room and master bedroom with bathroom and is linked to the existing house by a transparent gallery.
MINIMOD Retreat is an exploration of the experience of landscape and technology. It presents itself as a primitive retreat with a contemporary reinterpretation, which more than an object aims to become an every-remote-landscape experience.
The concept for this Edgemont Family Home was inspired by the surrounding coastal rainforest and the homeowners love for mid-century design. To enter the house you are brought down several steps, through the soft pink front door, into the main floor of the home.
