Michigan Lake House 1

Michigan Lake House / Desai Chia Architecture

Perched on a woodland bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, this home is an assemblage of three offset structures that play off each other— the ‘gathering’ structure contains the living room, kitchen and a covered ‘vista’ seating terrace; the two ‘sleeping’ structures house the master bedroom suite and three children’s bedrooms. A dining area breezeway connects all three structures.

Goodman Residence 5

Goodman Residence / Abramson Architects

Situated on a long, narrow lot in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, The Goodman Residence by Abramson Architects is a single-family home that expertly balances privacy with Southern Californian indoor-outdoor living. This unique design divides the property into two distinct areas, creating a dynamic interplay of solid and open spaces that both protect privacy and invite natural light.

Stirling House 4

Stirling House / Mac-Interactive Architects

Stirling House is a new-build house replacing two very narrow 2-storey weather-board cottages on the same lot but in a very derelict state. The project was completed by Sydney-based Mac-Interactive Architects. After much discussion with Heritage it was felt that it would not be possible to restore them to anything other than museum status as they could not be brought up to current BCA standards.
