One of the primary goals of this 4100 sf front-to-back Glendale duplex was to create a form that graphically allows the occupants to feel a sense of individual ownership within a shared building, while embracing the idea of density in a rapidly expanding city on a narrow 50’ wide sloped lot.
This project began with two families purchasing a large Central Austin property and subdividing it into two narrow lots to build new homes on – we were hired to design one of the homes.
The subtle exterior of this newly-built modern home complements the established neighborhood, while the interior explores volume and texture by way of a three-story dining room, exposed structural features and natural materials.

Our clients purchased this site high on a ridge overlooking Lake Austin and the Pennybacker Bridge. The property came with a house which proved ill-matched to their needs but which nestled neatly amid beautiful live oaks.
