Casa Zaire is a tiny house situated at the rear of a modernist building in Rua do Zaire, Porto. Its isolated position in relation to the street and to urban life led us to interpret this small building as an autonomous ‘object’.
The reconstitution of the timeline shows that, in fact, we are not facing a building, but two buildings that have evolved into a single building. The initial building may have been erected in the late 14th or 15th centuries.
The intervention in a semi-detached home, located in a perfectly consolidated urban area of the city of Oporto, had as its objective the simplification of the way of dwelling, of a house that already accused the passage of time.
The Bonfim house is a reconstruction of a pre existing home in Porto, north of Portugal, dated from the late 70s. It is intended for a young family living in the city. This family wanted a functional home with large, cleared areas with 4 floors and about 450 sqm.
The house is situated on a small triangular plot on Rua dos Caldeireiros, in the centre of Porto. The building has almost 57 m2, distributed over three floors, with a 4-meter façade and a plot end of 75 cm width.
The Alves da Veiga project aimed to reconvert an old typography built in the nineteenth century and abandoned for decades in a set of six apartments, maintaining all the structure and spatial concept of preexistence. The original building, though appearing from the outside only two storeys in fact contained a curious floor + mezzanine organization that actually embodied four habitable floors.
The new Nice Way Hostel Porto located in a beautiful old building on Avenida dos Aliados, it’s includes 32 rooms with eclectic center of Porto views. The big living-room, interior of which was arranged by designer Yaroslav Galant, became the heart of three-floored hostel.
The city center has recently taken a radical change both socially, culturally and economically which has consequently attracted an influx of tourism. The converted apartment house is named after the street in which it is situated and reflects the rejuvenated spirit that the urban area is currently undertaking.
