At the beginning of 2012 a young couple approached our practice for a GZ house. They had fallen in love with the beautiful setting of a small community on the outskirts of Santiago. On top of a steep hill, no road to reach it, with all the utilities’ network down below, the plot posed quite a challenge.
Balance between the public and the private is the concept that guides the whole project’s program. Located in the north-central area of Chile, the project serves the purpose of being a shelter and place for observation of nature’s beauty.
This light-filled modern farmhouse in Mill Spring, North Carolina serves as a relaxing retreat for its owners. The home is tucked in the countryside on a horse farm with rolling pastures and beautiful mountain landscape.
Sol retreat is a new build house on a vacant lot in the Willo Historic District in midtown Phoenix. Inspired by the southwestern urban vernacular of the courtyard house, we designed the home to both embrace and escape the sun and the city.
La Calma House is placed in a small town near Barcelona. Its plot is located in a forest area with a very steep slope and an abundance of pine, oak and olive trees. A natural park in front of the plot and the low building density of the area enhance the connection of the house with its natural surroundings.
The design of the Grand Pic cottage results from a sensitive reading of the magnificent woods in which it is located. The objective was to let ourselves be guided and inspired by the characteristics of the terrain.
The Dalarna house was specifically situated along a north to south axis so that the homeowners can have the morning sun at breakfast and, as the day goes on, enjoy the sunset from the master bedroom.
Anchored to a rocky slope and looking out over expansive water views, this house is the expression of the clients’ desire to connect to both the immediate landscape and the view beyond. Stacked boxes that end in large lift-slide doors direct each interior to specific views.
