Brick & Gable House is designed for a family of four. We were initially engaged to build a larger house for them, but after spending time living overseas, they returned realising that they could live in a smaller footprint.
The house is a typical single storey terrace house on a plot of 23′ x 75′ land. The original house layout is typically closed and the brief was to create an open plan on one side and private rooms on the other side of the dividing center wall.
Based upon the concepts of living in a garden and gathering under a roof, Project Nymph required the renovation and extension of a single fronted terrace house located in the Botanic Gardens precinct of inner Melbourne.

The Hugo Road house was extended once before in 2003 by the same clients, working that time with Studio Cullinan and Buck Architects Ltd. Part of our brief involved updating the RIBA award-winning work done by SCABAL – most importantly the all-glass kitchen extension with the pioneering green roof.
We got planning for a full width and side return extension, with full height steel doors adding an industrial style to this typical Victorian brick terraced house.
