Dulwich Hill Vaults is alterations and additions to an existing freestanding cottage in Sydney’s inner west. The project retains the existing house and introduces new living spaces in a structure to the rear directly connected to the garden.
Designed for our garden loving client in Artarmon, on Sydney’s leafy North Shore “House in the garden” is an addition to the rear of a modest, interwar bungalow set within a beautiful established garden.
The design of the Frank Macs bar was carefully considered to protect and enhance the highly significant heritage fabric. Techniques include using freestanding joinery, protective floor layers, and no fixings into the sandstone walls, carefully inserting the new design elements within the heritage framework.
Higher Ground House floats over a rocky sandstone outcrop with views over Middle Harbour. The empty corner site presented a rare set of opportunities to create a family home that celebrates the beautiful red gums and unique rock formation of Seaforth.
To accommodate a large busy family, this semi-detached house was expanded into its twin, creating a much larger home while allowing for the future re-division of the building into two homes again.
The Ferry Road House is representative of how infill development within a heritage conservation area can be comfortable, practical and environmentally sensitive without compromise.
We initially saw Balmain Rock House as a restoration and extension project, however through a collaborative process of discovery with the client, the existing cottage was not only restored, but its resonating bones became the inspiration for its addition.
