Nestled into a forested slope along the eastern edge of the Case Inlet, this small retreat opens to a western view of the Olympic Mountains and the Puget Sound. Case Inlet Retreat was designed by Seattle-based MW Works.
In this interior alteration project, the architect and new owner pushed the amenities to the forefront by reducing the program (4 bedrooms to 3), moving the kitchen (so as not to block the view of the river from the entry)
The challenge was to work with and within a partial remodel left behind from an earlier tenant improvement: a partial-height wall, and a three foot drop dividing the back of the space from the front.
Designed by MW Works, the Little House is nestled into a lush second growth forest on a north facing bluff overlooking Hood Canal. Built over an existing foundation, the new building is just over 20 ft square.

The Hill House is composed of a 20′ wide x 115′ long stepped platform, a shelter formed by the roof and east wall, and several gabion stone walls.
The Mazama house is located in the Methow Valley of Washington State, a secluded mountain valley on the eastern edge of the North Cascades, about 200 miles northeast of Seattle.
Located on a rain-drenched site in the rugged, north- western foothills of the Cascade Mountains, this modest, sustainable building has a big presence in a big landscape.
