A city apartment for design lovers on the Amsterdam canals, representing itself through a nordic industrial style combined with archetypical simplicity and beautiful finishes.
Well located in the city of Amsterdam, on the splendid canal the Prinsengracht, on the corner of the famous ‘nine streets’ the Nieuw apartment creates a nice and peaceful space to disconnect from the busy city. The design of the apartment expresses itself through a mix out of nordic archetypical simplicity and Parisian elegance.
A thought through concept of a quiet place to disconnect, with natural tones and materials, creates a very peaceful residence in the buzzing city. The warm grey painted walls contribute together with the dark treated wooden floor to the unique ambiance of the space. Bringing together natural materials, design classics combined with matching furniture, fine finishes and well chosen colors the apartment turns into a contemporary and at the same time timeless residence.
To finish off the design The Nieuw collaborated with the interior design studio ‘Ibiza Interiors’ from Ibiza and their partner store ‘The Modern‘ in Amsterdam which introduced an interesting selection of furniture brands in the project. A mix of design classics from brands such as Carl Hansen, Fredericia, Gervasoni and DCW and conceptual furniture brands like Frama, Menu, Heerenhuis, Fermob and Ay Illuminate.
The apartment contains around 70 sqm and includes a wide living room in the front with large steel windows overlooking the canal, offering great views, much daylight and the sunset behind the opposite canal houses. In the rear a large master bedroom – with access to the balcony – where the morning light brings in a warm and calming ambiance. A big bathroom with industrial finishes including shower and bathtub such as a small separate rest room. The kitchen which is connected to the balcony where its inhabitants can enjoy their morning coffee and an office space which can be optionally used as a second bedroom.
The result is a peaceful and fascinating space where natural colors and elements encourage to calm down and disconnect. All this on only a few minutes from the Hoxton Hotel, Soho House and right on the corner of the beautiful Nine Streets and the world heritage Amsterdam Canals. A better contrast we can’t imagine, city life at it’s best!
The Nieuw apartment is now being used as a showcase project for their signature and future developments and rental apartment designed by and for design lovers.
About the studio and owner
The Nieuw Apartment is created as a showcase project as well as a rental apartment and one of the first projects of a new concept, a holistic design of a rental residence for design lovers. An opportunity to experience interior design and architecture while visiting new places around the world. After designing the Ibiza Campo Loft in 2018, this is the second international design residence for rent. With hopefully many others to come in the near future. Focussing on ‘special’ destinations in the world, The Nieuw is very open for collaborations to create unique and outstanding developments focussing on hospitality and design. Behind the Nieuw stands the interior architect and creative entrepreneur Jurjen van Hulzen (1984). He lives with his wife Selina and their three children in Ibiza, after moving from Amsterdam five years ago. He works internationally on various projects and develops spatial concepts for retail, hospitality and private residences.
