The house was made out of a warehouse and a barn, inside an apartment building in Montevecchia, in northern Brianza, Italy.
The renewal of the residence on Cowley avenue began with the idea of connecting the existing house to the expansive yard in the rear of the largest single property in the Champlain Park region of Ottawa.
Lot Squared Development engaged Teass/Warren Architects to luxuriously restore & renovate the 4,200-square-foot property while keeping its original 1906 Victorian architecture.
The existing building is a relatively compact Anglo-Italianate townhouse circa 1860, and a three-story extension was added to expand the living space.
We sensitively extended into the rear garden to create a new light-filled playroom at ground level and a suitably moody bar and cinema in the basement, as well as reorganising the existing plan of the three-storey home.
The key to the design… is hydraulic lime! Hence the name Lime House. To transform a 95 sq m derelict shop on a tiny site in a Conservation Area into a spacious four bedroom family house!
Parnell Facade project is a single storey rear extension to an existing post war bungalow in Elsternwick, Victoria, Australia. The main challenge of this project was creating a strong design concept around a poor previous extension.
Our response is to use an eclectic but carefully chosen palette of materials and colours to give the house this painterly and textured quality. A main component of the design is a concrete and timber tree which rises from the garden.
