Single-storied and modest in size with a distinct sloping roof and generous verandah area at the rear, this humble addition embodies the characteristics of mid-century Australian bungalows.
Located down the end of an idyllic cul-de-sac in the heart of the inner Melbourne suburb of Brunswick East, only the front four rooms were salvaged from this archetypal double fronted weatherboard residence. There was no need, nor pressure, to design any lavish addition beyond this point with all the bells and whistles; this design is heavily curated for a family who knows exactly how they want to live and what they require to do so.
The unassuming yet highly efficient addition incorporates a family room, formal dining space and casual meals area in the form of a square island bench – the latter an important ‘cog’ in the day to day living routine of the owners.
