Autumn House, a striking project designed by Studio Bright in Wurundjeri Country, is an extension of a Victorian terrace home that incorporates a 1980s renovation by architect Mick Jörgensen and gracefully integrates a mature elm tree in the backyard.Â
A new house for a large family located on a double-fronted site in North Fitzroy with heritage overlay reflects Studio Bright’s ongoing desire to make adaptable family houses that connect as much as possible with the outdoors.
A prominent, corner sited Edwardian on the crest of Ruckers Hill, has been restored and enlarged with new living spaces in a separate rear-garden pavilion.
Amado are external sliding timber screens used on Japanese traditional houses to protect the inner layers of shoji screens from the weather. The Amado House adapts sliding screens to address Australian conditions, moderating harsh sun and discouraging blowflies with flywire replacing rice paper.
This is a rear extension to a single-storey cottage in Brunswick with difficult orientation characteristics – the north sun only reaching the site from over adjoining houses. The new addition pulls living areas to the rear of the site and uses ‘sun-catchers’ for light and spaciousness in the interior.
In a lively, active industrial precinct the form of this house can be understood as a perimeter condition; an expanded edge that sits hard up against the site boundary and in doing so, wraps and encloses the domestic program, creating an inner, secluded refuge away from the city.

Rosebank House project was realized by Make Architecture and it involved the spatial extension and renovation of an Edwardian house in Kew, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Harnessing the free land, there were built new living spaces, well adapted to the generous proportions of the old house.
