Located in Laval, a Montreal suburb, this century old house underwent a complete overhaul of its interior. The owner/designer Mélissa Ohnona wanted to maximize the space as well as the natural light and exterior views from the house, to create a welcoming and functional family home.
The relationship between open and closed, between heavy and light, between clean new materials to those who have been already scratched and used and mainly the relationship between exposed concrete and… All the rest. It is not an easy material. Concrete that is. It requires the best professionals, it does not have any mistakes range and it is expensive.
We expanded a traditional shingled cottage home by marrying a new addition and a renovation project together. The design reorients the house to the garden, an existing swimming pool, and the bucolic views of the neighboring farm in order to reinforce the relationships between outdoor activities and the surrounding landscape.
