At the summit of Bellevue Hill a centennial Peppertree rises over the skyline; two homes lie beneath its vast canopy. To one side of the fence, The Oculi House and to the other, Peppertree Villa, a skillfully designed late 1920s home.
A family with two young boys, wanted a vacation house built on undeveloped land near Acadia National Park. The property is in a remote forest at the end of a peninsula, with eastern views to the mountains and western views across Somes Sound.
The triangular shaped plot has a total area of 13.850 m2 and is oriented South/North. The path to the plot runs alongside a white wall, showing the way to the entrance. Entering the plot, the building reveals itself.

Twenty years ago, Whitten Architects designed a home for a family on a 100-acre coastal farm in the town of Yarmouth. In 2017, we returned to the site to design a cottage for the next generation of the same family.
The Ramsey House project featured a 60’s detached family house consisting with a disjointed layout making it hard for the clients to enjoy the house appropriately; there was also little to no connection to the rear garden.
K House exemplifies how architecture meets high urban design standards while taking into account the landscape of its rural surroundings. Vered Blatman-Cohen designed the house as a “cube” that was dropped onto the narrow, elongated plot.
