The Fishers Island House is designed to accommodate and entertain them all for generations to come. Often called “the ark” by locals, the house is comprised of eight Lego-like boxes sitting on a panelized concrete foundation that was also prefabricated.
This rustic waterfront home was recently completed by Architecture AF in collaboration with Tamarkin Architecture. A non-conforming, small lot coupled with strict environmental regulations demanded this waterfront house have a vertical orientation to the surrounding protected wetland preserve.
A research scientist with an eye for detail approached us with a modest vision and a couple of basic practical needs: First, transform a 1908 Noe Valley cottage– with a history of subpar alterations – into a cohesive modern dwelling.
Fully surrounding the entire Looker office space is a surf tropical terrace, complete with eating, lounge, and game areas. This multi-functional space provides a retreat for staff to engage in both work and play, while enjoying the picturesque Santa Cruz scenery.
The Native Hostel, Bar & Kitchen is a boutique hostel, bar, cafe, and event space designed for the epicurean traveler and locals alike. It is nestled in an existing 2-story late 1800’s stone building and a mid-century brick warehouse right in the middle of the upcoming transit-oriented development adjacent to downtown.
The approach for the renovation and extension of the Hopetoun Road Residence is to retain the existing structure as an anchoring element, adding a series of pavilions underneath a floating copper roofline that wraps around the original building.
Desai Chia Architecture designed this loft for a photographer who was seeking a serene live-work environment. The 5,000 square foot industrial space was fully renovated to include a library/reception area, living and dining areas, a kitchen, a photo studio, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room, and ample storage space.
The ongoing collaboration between VMAD and West Elm works extremely well. The new West Elm offices is a beautiful representation of a growing brand, their design partner’s creativity and the success of their brand values.
