JIM WESTPHALEN – PHOTOGRAPHER Known for his cinematic style, Jim Westphalen has been creating advertising and editorial photographs for more than 30 years. Shooting for fine shelter and food publications such as Dwell, Design New England, Eating Well, Fine Homebuilding, New England Home, Country Gardens and This Old House, Jim also shoots for advertising clients such as Keurig-Green Mountain as well as many luxury hotels and resorts. When not on commercial assignments, Jim is making fine art images which are exhibited through galleries and museums in the region. His ongoing current body of work, vanish is a photo-narrative that speaks to the decay of the built landscape in rural America. Born and raised on Long Island, New York, in 1996 he moved to Vermont where he now lives with his wife Kendra and three children.

Located on a hillside meadow in rural Vermont, Bank Barn is a new residence conceptually inspired by the eponymous regional farm structures built into the banks of hills.
Vista Residence is a private mountainside house located in a remote forest in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Conceptually, the concrete lower level anchors the house into the hillside, allowing the black cedar-clad upper level to float above the landscape and provide panoramic views to the valley below.
The Knoll Retreat was designed to have a strong presence, but not overwhelm the site. We let the land, views, and trees shape it and create a framework for intertwined interior and exterior rooms.
The Vermont Modern Farmhouse takes the shape of two volumes, with ridges perpendicular to one another, connected by a single story glass enclosure. The two volumes have steep “farmhouse” pitched roofs while the other portions of the house have low-slope roofs.
