This apartment had a beautiful view of Prospect Park but the room configuration failed to take advantage of its location. The apartment was reconfigured by BAAO to collect shared spaces together and to provide for flexible uses.
Living spaces were consolidated into a single large open room overlooking the park with a flexible living/dining space that could be cleared of furniture to allow for yoga sessions led by the owner.
The master bedroom was expanded into a suite of layered spaces to create a small media room and a more secluded sleeping space.
The kitchen was relocated at the center of the space with visual connections toward both family spaces. The daughter’s room enjoys a corner park view.
The material palette of white oak, white and pops of color keeps the spaces light and airy. The kitchen is a mix of Ikea cabinets and custom oak shelving with a Popham tile backsplash. Countertops are a mix of oak butcherblock and Caesarstone around the sink. A terracotta-painted barn door separates the master suite from the living spaces.
In the master suite, an open wood screen separates the sleeping space from the social space and conceals the television when not in use. The daughter’s room glows from walls painted a pale yellow. Recessed and wall mounted wood shelving adds warmth to the tiled bathroom. Bleached white floors tie the spaces together and reflect light.
