Queen Anne House by DeForest Architects beautifully merges Tudor Revival charm with contemporary design. The owner, an artist, envisioned a home where her family could create and appreciate art while reinterpreting historical elements. The house’s classic proportions, intricate woodwork, and vibrant stained glass provided the perfect foundation for her creative aspirations. As you move through the floors, traditional details and carvings gradually transform into modern interpretations, culminating in a minimalist attic perch that offers stunning views of Elliott Bay.

Innovative Entry and Hidden Features

One of the standout features of Queen Anne House is its almost-invisible glass-and-steel entry. This sleek addition contrasts sharply with the sturdy brick exterior, signaling a modern touch while honoring the home’s traditional roots. Upon entering, visitors discover a hidden plywood staircase tucked behind what appears to be a closet door. This clever design leads to the attic, where Scandinavian-inspired plywood cladding accentuates the complex roofline. The sky-lit perch provides a peaceful retreat with a bird’s-eye view, perfect for relaxation and inspiration.

Playful and Functional Interiors

Inside, Queen Anne House shines with bright and unexpected design elements. A curved translucent wall creates playful alcoves around the perimeter, adding both functionality and visual interest. The integration of natural light throughout the home enhances its airy and inviting atmosphere. Wooden surfaces and minimalist furnishings complement the artistic touches, ensuring that each space adapts seamlessly to the lifestyle of a young family. The attic’s serene perch and the open living areas encourage creativity and togetherness, making Queen Anne House a delightful sanctuary.

Queen Anne House by DeForest Architects exemplifies how thoughtful interior design can honor history while embracing modernity. This home offers a perfect blend of artistic inspiration and family-friendly functionality, creating a unique and vibrant living space.
