The Salt Spring Island cabin serves as a get away for a couple living in Vancouver, BC. who wanted a simple and modern building to provide an escape from their hectic urban lives in the city. The cabin is a long rectangular volume with a shed roof facing spectacular views of Salt Spring island and the Salish Sea beyond. Situated below the access road above, the building is nestled into the surrounding landscape making it feel unobtrusive and purposeful.
The rectangular plan is separated by a fully glass entry area providing views toward the lake and ocean beyond as well as a covered outdoor area with skylight above. The Living and Dining area features a contemporary wood fireplace with large sliding glass doors leading out to the exterior wood deck. To one side of the entry, a self contained Guest Suite offers privacy for guests and family while the other side of the entry provides access to the Living spaces, Office, and Master bedroom at the far end. A long deck runs parallel with the house on the view side spanning over a gully below and allowing for access via large sliding doors from all rooms.
Recently completed, this home provides a calm setting to escape the city, have a fire, read a book, and enjoy a cup of coffee as the sun sets and the deer meander by.
