From the outside, Hansen Road House is an anonymous, almost austere, monumental facade anchored deeply into the hillside on a waterfront property.
The Bainbridge Island Farmhouse has been designed so that the owners can “age in place” with wide corridors and doorways, a one-floor living area, and an abundance of natural light.
This hillside home retreat is 2600 square feet with two bedrooms. Similar to its sibling shoreline home, Seaview Escape, it is done in the Pacific Northwest-style, with wood floors and an expansive two-story glazing allowing a view of the mountains from the upper balcony.
An accomplished musician and music teacher, this client asked Coates Design to provide a special place for her baby grand piano to resonate throughout the home. The couple was intrigued with the idea of building a container house from real containers.
