With three children under the age of 5, our clients were starting to feel the confines of their Pacific Heights home when the expansive 1902 Italianate across the street went on the market.
Located in the heart of Forest Hill, Parkwood Residence designed by multidisciplinary Ancerl Studio exudes contemporary elegance balanced with a modernized industrial flair. The exterior facade defined by its contrasting volumes of glass, brick, and stone welcomes guests as they permeate through the home’s protective layers in a curated journey through space.
This hillside home retreat is 2600 square feet with two bedrooms. Similar to its sibling shoreline home, Seaview Escape, it is done in the Pacific Northwest-style, with wood floors and an expansive two-story glazing allowing a view of the mountains from the upper balcony.
Grasshopper Courtyard Studio offers an alternative density called courtyard urbanism. Maintaining the small footprint of a 1940s house (the lot is 4,500 square feet), a multifunctional 360-square-foot studio was added along the rear alley.
Situated in the Seattle neighborhood of Magnolia, the goal of this 3,318-square-foot house was to create a modern spacious home with lots of light, a classic yet modern feel all while managing a limited budget.

The Portland Residence is a historical stone house located in the Town of Mount-Royal, a “model city” built in the early 20th century. The architectural firm Atelier Barda entirely renovated the property and created a custom furniture collection through its new Foraine par Atelier Barda division.
Developed as a home for multiple generations, the Descendant House allows three family units and generations to co-exist harmoniously in a single structure. The house physically descends down the slope of the lot, while also carrying on the legacy of a former house that previously existed on the site.
The design of Spechts’ Dallas house was driven by the desire to blur the lines between inside and outside while providing a sense of privacy and seclusion from the street and surrounding neighborhood, at the homeowners request.
