The Scenic Shed is a 500 sf single-room space of leisure located in New York’s Hudson Valley. The structure was built using conventional wood framing on a concrete slab foundation and the low-maintenance white stucco exterior abstracts the building against the natural landscape.
The program was simple: a secluded small home for a couple who sought a place to prepare and enjoy meals, to read by the fire, to write and paint, to lodge guests, and to sleep among the trees.
Gawthorne’s Hut is a luxury, 2 person, off grid, tourism experience within a working rural property 10 minutes from the centre of Mudgee. Gawthorne’s Hut demonstrates sustainable building practices and smaller footprints to guests.
What are YrdPods? It’s a Pod, located in a Yard. The dictionary defines a Pod as: streamlined enclosure, housing, or detachable container of some kind; and Yard as: a piece of enclosed ground adjoining or surrounding a house or other building.
Just past the airport the landscape changes from tract housing to pastoral land and small rural communities. Dotted along the drive are old agricultural outbuildings and early settler dwellings. Nostalgia for this connection between land and building was the guiding principle for our Nulla Vale House and Shed.
