Brazilian architect Beatriz Pons, working for Medvind Design AB, masterfully transformed a basement into a chic living space within a loft apartment located in the trendy Södermalm neighborhood of Stockholm in 2014. This project showcases her ability to redefine a space traditionally considered challenging and convert it into a stylish and functional dwelling.
The design philosophy for this Stockholm loft was centered around achieving a clean and meticulously planned aesthetic. Each element within the space was carefully considered to ensure both functionality and visual appeal. The use of concrete floors and plaster walls provides a raw, industrial feel, which is elegantly balanced by the extensive use of stainless steel, enhancing the modern industrial vibe of the apartment.
To combat the potential darkness of a basement setting, materials and colors were strategically chosen to optimize light reflection. Additionally, roof windows were installed in key locations to maximize natural light, illuminating the once gloomy basement space.
The kitchen exemplifies sleek design and high functionality, featuring cabinetry from the renowned Italian brand Arclinea and top-of-the-line appliances from the German manufacturer Gaggenau. This setup not only offers a professional culinary experience but also complements the overall aesthetic of the loft.
The bathroom serves as a pinnacle of luxury within the apartment, adorned with Italian marble that lends a lavish touch. A distinctive round bathtub from Copenhagen Bath, accompanied by sophisticated fixtures from CEA Design, adds an element of exclusivity and comfort, making it a standout feature of the home.
Overall, Beatriz Pons’ renovation of this Stockholm loft represents a successful fusion of industrial elements with high-end design, creating a space that is not only beautiful and light-filled but also thoroughly practical, reflecting the unique flair and functionality that modern urban living demands.
