Baltazar Apartment, designed by Felipe Carolo Arquitetura, sits in a neoclassical building in one of São Paulo’s most traditional neighborhoods. Adolpho Lindenberg originally designed the building, blending Brazilian warmth with French elegance. This fusion reflects the architect’s love for European aesthetics and Brazilian heritage, creating a space that is both modern and timeless.

A New Phase in Life: How Baltazar Apartment Became the Perfect Canvas for Design

For the young architect, the apartment marked the start of a new chapter in both his personal and professional life. After learning that a Frenchwoman had influenced the original project, his connection to French design deepened. This inspired his vision for the space, which perfectly combines French refinement and Brazilian creativity in a location rich in European references.

Updating for Modern Living

Built in the 1970s, the apartment needed critical updates. The architect upgraded the electrical and plumbing systems to meet modern standards and completely renovated the kitchen. These changes improved both functionality and aesthetics, supporting the design’s refreshed, modern look.

White Canvas with Vibrant Accents

The apartment’s design revolves around a white foundation, serving as a versatile canvas for bold, colorful elements. This approach balances elegance and liveliness, blending French and Brazilian styles throughout the space. In the living room, a Vertigo chandelier by Constance Guisset hangs from the ceiling, while vibrant touches like a brass heirloom lamp and a green lampshade from Maison Aracaju add warmth and personality.

Comfort and Practicality in Every Space

The TV room and couple’s suite focus on comfort and practicality. The TV room, with its white sofa and light beige rug, offers a soft, welcoming atmosphere. The architect added modern touches with ceramic pieces on display and iron poufs by Jorge Zalzupin.

In the couple’s suite, the bed—designed by the architect from freijó wood—takes center stage. The architect chose terracotta bedding and a mustard Turkish rug to add personality, while functional pieces like the bedside tables meet the couple’s needs. Personal elements, including a chair by Gustavo Bittencourt and a family heirloom armchair, create a restful, meaningful space.

Combining Old and New with Thoughtful Design

In the guest toilet, the architect preserved the original porcelain sink from the previous resident, but modernized the space with Ingo Maurer’s playful Bird chandelier. The mix of old and new defines the apartment’s aesthetic, creating a balance between history and innovation. In the hallway, a vibrant peacock painting by Brazilian artist Igor Romualdo welcomes guests, adding a burst of color and setting the tone for the rest of the apartment.

A Cozy and Functional Balcony

The architect maximized the apartment’s balcony, hiding two air conditioning units under an iron sideboard that also serves as seating. Cushions add comfort, while a bistro table and benches create a space for casual gatherings. The wireless lamp by Fernando Prado enhances the outdoor area with both style and function.

Conclusion: A Fusion of Cultures in Design

Baltazar Apartment beautifully demonstrates how two distinct cultural influences can merge into a cohesive and stylish living space. Felipe Carolo’s thoughtful design choices create a home that reflects both French elegance and Brazilian warmth. The result is a modern, functional apartment that feels timeless and welcoming at every turn.
