Milanese studio AIM has masterfully transformed an office space into the Brazilian Taste Apartment, a residential oasis that reflects a fresh and elegant lifestyle in the heart of urban life. This project emphasizes flexibility and a strong connection with nature through the integration of numerous plants, aligning with the homeowner’s passions.
Design Philosophy and Functional Aesthetics
AIM redesigned the apartment to support a seamless flow among various functional areas such as the living room, kitchen, studio, and dining area. These spaces, while distinct, maintain an open dialogue with each other, enhancing both the apartment’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.
The Iconic Concrete Box
Central to the apartment’s design is the “concrete box,” a distinctive architectural feature that houses the living room. This element, closed on three sides, anchors the flat and orchestrates the flow to other rooms. It optimally harnesses natural light, creating an ideal environment for plant life.
Rethinking Traditional Layouts
Instead of traditional corridors separating living and sleeping areas, the entrance to the Brazilian Taste Apartment offers a comprehensive view of the space. This design approach features a dynamic alternation of volumes and voids, enhancing the architectural integrity of the flat and introducing dramatic elements to the living environment.
Materials and Finishes
The external walls of the concrete box, made of rough cement, emphasize its significant role within the space. Inside, white resin finishes transform the box’s interior into a light, ethereal setting that focuses attention on the furnishings.
Custom Built-in Furniture
Custom-designed furniture integrates flawlessly with the apartment’s architecture, tailored specifically to enhance the layout and thematic narrative of the space. Innovative storage solutions include wardrobes with unexpected functionalities, such as direct access from the master bedroom to the bathroom, which underscores the apartment’s sophisticated design.
Conclusion
The Brazilian Taste Apartment by AIM Studio exemplifies how innovative design can transform conventional spaces into customized environments that support modern lifestyles. The project beautifully merges design elements with a natural affinity for greenery, creating not just a functional space but a sanctuary of tranquility and style.
