The Foyer St Pierre apartment is a restructuring and renovation of period apartments in Old Montreal. Given the historical aspect of the apartment and the building, the main challenge was to restructure the space, creating an additional room and carrying out a modern renovation, which respects the old character and gives the impression to have always existed; without distorting the strong historical elements of the place.
A second challenge was to highlight the extraordinary view angles of this apartment, overlooking the surrounding historic buildings. Thus, the view offered by each window has been fully integrated into the layout as an ornamental element, and by playing on the perspectives. Finally, the clients wanted each member of the family to have their own space, which meant creating a third bedroom.
The aesthetic developed on this project plays with simple lines to reinforce the existing space: spectacular viewpoints, a historic period fireplace with its cabinet work and wooden ornamentation, brick walls. We worked a lot on the connection between spaces, perspectives and points of view. In order to highlight the original elements, the decoration is deliberately simple and uncluttered. We played on the terracotta color, which is found in the bricks and the elements of illustration, and combines with the original parquet, sanded and sanded, in cherry wood. In use, customers have particularly appreciated the layout in which they now feel both at home and everyone together.
