Hood Residence is a renovation and addition project in West Lake Hills. It blends a discreet renovation of the existing mid-century home with a two-story addition, including a primary suite and a second living space. The addition and original house frame the backyard, creating an intimate oasis around the new pool. The post and beam structure of the existing house was preserved, along with the striking limestone fireplace. Partitions were removed to create a spacious, open living space. Sustainability is central to the design. The addition’s roof channels all water to a single point for collection, while solar panels are situated on the south-facing roofs of both the original home and addition. The renovation is discreet from the street, with minimal changes made to the front of the house. The split-level addition on the back is subtly visible above the original roof line. The design preserves the original midcentury aesthetic of the home while updating and adding more space for a growing family.
