In the heart of Turin, an elegant apartment in a historic building transforms into a contemporary retreat for a globetrotting chef. Renovating in Turin, this customized renovation elevates the home into a space that balances passion with profession, where the kitchen becomes a stage for conviviality and culinary experimentation, enhanced by sophisticated technical solutions and refined design.
A Home Reimagined for Culinary Passion
The client, a chef by trade and avid traveler, has spent recent years in cities such as Tokyo, New York, and Rome, managing restaurant startups while nurturing a lifelong love for cooking and wine. After years of hotel stays and rented homes, purchasing this apartment marked a turning point—a true home base for him. Working remotely with a turnkey approach, the architect managed the project with swift decisions, ensuring every detail resonated with the chef’s unique lifestyle.
Redefining Space for Conviviality
The intervention redefined the apartment’s spatial distribution with a focus on the living area as a center for connection and sharing. At the heart of the home stands a large, all-white kitchen island designed as a stage for culinary experimentation and social gatherings. In response to the dual domestic and professional demands of the client’s life in the restaurant industry, the original, undersized cooktop was replaced by a state-of-the-art 90 cm induction cooktop featuring a fully flexible cooking surface and a motorized, retractable glass hood that adjusts to capture steam perfectly. These advanced solutions were seamlessly integrated by modifying the kitchen top on site.
Harmonious Aesthetics and Timeless Design
The choice of colors and materials reflects the owner’s personality. A pure white base evokes order and cleanliness typical of professional kitchens, while subtle accents in shades of gray and green bring warmth and sophistication. The design honors the apartment’s historical character while incorporating contemporary elements, such as vintage treasures and Nordic-inspired details, to create a refined yet lively ambiance. Custom finishes, carefully curated artworks, and an inviting large dining table emphasize the importance of shared moments—both for business dinners and intimate family gatherings.
Creating a Personalized Living Environment
Every element of the renovation tells a part of the owner’s story. The living area features a wall bookcase and a selection of art that add personality, while thoughtfully planned lighting enhances each room’s atmosphere. Even the bathrooms receive a contemporary makeover with three-dimensional stone-effect tiles and sage tones that harmonize with the rest of the space. A comfortable conversation area, anchored by a large corner sofa, provides a welcoming counterpoint to the dynamic, high-energy kitchen.
In essence, this project is more than just a renovation—it is the creation of a home that reflects the spirit of its owner. By merging historical charm with modern innovation, the apartment becomes an authentic extension of his identity. Every return home transforms into an experience of renewal, where functionality meets refined design and the art of cooking is celebrated as both a passion and a profession.
