Casa dos Abraços is situated in the fishing village of Ferragudo, Algarve, Southern Portugal. The historic center of Ferragudo is an extremely sensitive area to work and we believe that our intervention should be balanced harmonious and above all integrate with the surrounding architecture.

Responding the clients’ brief – a house offering sanctuary and entertainment, the Newport Waterfront Retreat is designed to allow nature to lead, offering maximum seclusion and connection to its surrounds and outlook.

The Broombank House is set into the banks of the sloped site and accessed via a single-track lane that arrives into a sunken entrance courtyard, offering glimpses of the views beyond. The brief from our client was to create a relaxed contemporary house within a reconsidered, ‘natural’ landscape that blurred the site boundaries to its neighbours and adjoining marshland.
