Situated on the Southwest shore of Lake Waconia, this industrial modern house for a family of 8 seeks to celebrate its natural surroundings through natural materials and dramatic transparency.
We chose to make a low rise house, mostly one-storey, whose sinuous shape is guided by the nature that surrounds it. The building itself folds, opens and tightens like a river digging its bed.
The Glass Farmhouse is located on a unique point lot, surrounded by water on all sides, and is just 45 minutes from downtown Birmingham on Smith Lake. The lakefront property came with a lot of topographical challenges.
