Villa G is located in a quiet bay off the southeastern region of the Swedish archipelago. This region is renowned for the oak forests that have contributed to the Swedish boat-building tradition for centuries.
In addition to the Scandinavian traditions, the Swedish summer house draws inspiration from Japan, in an interpretation where simplicity, wood and the relationship with the surrounding nature are at the heart of the architecture.
The bearing structure of the Santorini summer house has been made by reinforced concrete. Local black stone, bricks and thermal insulation have been used for the walls, as also colored earthy plaster for the coatings and the exterior floors.
This stone summerhouse of a family of four, spreads through 3 correlated volumes, which clearly can be defined as the seating & kitchen volume, the circulation tower and the sleeping & storaging volume. Around these volumes, the perimetrical terraces are unfolding, some under the surface of the hill, some at the same level and some projected over it.
A recently retired couple wanted to build a summer villa that would reflect their aspiration for enjoying the beautiful lakeside landscape with their extended family and friends, while at the same time minimising the impact of the construction on the surrounding natural environment.
This modern summerhouse near São Paulo was built for a couple with three grown-up daughters. It had to conciliate the dichotomy between framing astonishing views to a golf course and woods towards the dark south and seeking abundant light on the street side, towards north.
The summer house stands on a ridge by a deep and rugged gulley, surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery; a panoramic view over a lake towards a distant mountain range in the north, a steep rock face beyond the gulley to the east, and diverse mountain ranges to the south and west.
