In later Victorian times, the status of the artist was improving. Chelsea was affordable compared to the West End, but still close. A number of artists’ studios were built and distinct artistic and bohemian communities were established.
Set in beautiful Hampshire, the brief for this project was to design a cottage where friends and family could spend long periods of time just next door to the prime residence within the existing Farm.
We set out to create a flat – Birch & Clay Refugio – for a family of five that maximised flexibility of spaces and storage solutions and reflecting the family’s links with Barcelona.
Extensive refurbishment and interiors fit out of a central london flat in a mansion block originally constructed at the turn of the last century. The works included substantial structural modifications altering the flat’s layout and introducing new services.

The Somerton Long House is a two-storey, new-build dwelling in Somerton, Somerset, designed by Neil Choudhury Architects. The 350 square-metre project is built into a steeply sloping site and overlooks a pond, mill stream and garden designed by James Alexander Sinclair.
