The Wilderness Ridge House by Reid Smith Architects sits gracefully within the woods of the Club at Spanish Peaks in Big Sky, Montana. This distinctive home pushes the boundaries of mountain modern design, offering a sleek yet grounded presence. Perched on a steep hillside, the house provides sweeping views from Lone Peak to Yellowstone Park, seamlessly blending with the rugged landscape.
A Modern Glass Box in the Mountains
The home’s striking design features a glass box atop a stone base, with a parallel stone wall following the natural slope of the hillside. This structure creates a powerful visual effect, as the glass walls seem to hover within the trees, making the home feel both integrated and elevated. Expansive windows frame the breathtaking landscape, bringing the outdoors into each room and offering an unbroken connection to nature.
Blending Contemporary and Western Aesthetics
Inside, the Wilderness Ridge House balances sleek modernity with rustic Western character. Elegant steel elements and carefully chosen rough-hewn materials give the home a distinctly contemporary yet warmly Western feel. Stone and wood textures add depth and warmth, complementing the minimalist lines of the glass and steel framework.
A Captivating View from Every Room
Featured on the cover of Mountain Living Magazine’s first issue of 2017, the Wilderness Ridge House was praised by the homeowner, who shared, “I can walk into a room and be totally captivated by the Yellowstone Club, Spanish Peaks, Yellowstone National Park, and some of the far distant mountain ranges.” This house, with its artful mix of expansive views and refined design, invites residents and guests alike to experience the splendor of Montana’s wilderness from every angle.
The Wilderness Ridge House by Reid Smith Architects stands as a unique fusion of modern architecture and mountain living, offering a sophisticated retreat that celebrates the beauty of Big Sky’s dramatic landscape.
