In the vibrant Lourdes neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, architect Lucas Lage transformed his 300-square-meter apartment into a modern masterpiece. Completed in May 2022, this project, known as the Lucas Lage Apartment, blends contemporary design with carefully curated furnishings, integrating the old with the new.
A Vision of Modern Simplicity
Lucas Lage, the architect and owner, designed his home as an extension of his personality. He used neutral tones—black, white, and gray—paired with selected furniture and art to add depth and character. One key element of the renovation was acquiring the iconic UP armchair by Gaetano Pesce, which serves as a statement piece within the apartment.
The Renovation Journey
The project involved a complete renovation of an older property. Lage reworked the internal layout to meet modern needs and aesthetic preferences. This renovation introduced integrated areas, enhancing both comfort and functionality in the Lucas Lage Apartment. The result is a seamless blend of modernity and sophistication.
Design and Inspiration
Lage’s architectural experience guided the design. He focused on neutral colors and textures, using indirect lighting and strategic art placement to create a cohesive atmosphere. He chose to retain the original wood flooring in the bedrooms as a nod to the apartment’s history. Techno-cement by NS Brazil was used for the remaining floors, offering durability and ease of maintenance.
A Closer Look at the Spaces
- Master Suite: The master suite is a modern luxury sanctuary. It features a custom wardrobe and mirror designed by Lage. The bathroom has a striking black slate sink. The bedroom showcases a custom bedside table and a Copa lamp by Wentz Design. A Turkish rug and a Bruno Rios art piece add texture and contrast.
- Balcony: The balcony, integrated with the master suite, features Terratile ceramic flooring and the iconic UP armchair by Gaetano Pesce. This area blends comfort and high design, creating a functional and visually stunning space.
- Social Area: A custom rack, designed by Lucas Lage and executed by Marcenaria Leopoldina, dominates the social area. The minimalist aesthetic is enhanced by techno-cement on the floors, walls, and ceiling. The space features the Baleia Oval P table by Playground Company and the iconic Mole armchair by Sérgio Rodrigues.
Materials and Furnishings
Lage selected materials for both practicality and aesthetic appeal. Techno-cement floors offer a sleek and modern look, complementing the apartment’s design. Black slate was chosen for the bathroom sink and kitchen countertops, adding sophistication and an earthy touch.
Carefully chosen furniture and decor pieces enhance the modernist vibe. Notable pieces include Diz armchairs by Sérgio Rodrigues, the Sonia bench, and the Gota coffee table set by Zanini de Zanine. Exclusive artwork by RAG and personal collections of rugs and decorative items add a personal touch.
Art and Personal Touches
Art plays a crucial role in the Lucas Lage Apartment. Paintings by Fábio Cansado and Bruno Rios, along with pieces from RAG, bring color and emotion into the spaces. Lage’s personal collection, including a Turkish rug, adds a global influence, blending local and international elements.
Conclusion
The Lucas Lage Apartment renovation in Belo Horizonte showcases modern design with precision and personality. By blending contemporary elements with preserved original features, Lage created a home that reflects his architectural expertise and serves as a personal retreat. This project fulfills his design aspirations and sets a benchmark for modern living in Belo Horizonte.
