Mercer Street Loft, artfully designed by DHD Architecture + Interiors, is located on Mercer Street in the bustling SoHo district of NYC. This low-floor loft is flooded with natural light, enhancing its expansive feel.
The project was a collaborative endeavor between DHD Interiors – Architecture and the client, aimed at celebrating both the timeless beauty of classic architectural elements and the sleekness of modern design. A key feature of the design is a partial-height wall that not only provides a gentle separation between the public and private areas but also allows light and air to permeate the private spaces.
Preserving the loft’s original elements like tin ceilings, exposed cast iron columns, and original wood floors and window casings, the design honors the historical integrity while embracing modern aesthetics. This juxtaposition creates a living space that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
Art is a central theme within the loft, reflecting the client’s eclectic and bold taste. This is manifested through vibrant area rugs, distinctive furniture, and unique pieces such as a weathered sandstone bench, all of which add character and personality to the space.
The dining area features a fourteen-foot table, ideal for hosting and entertaining, set against a whimsical mural painted by a friend of the client, adding a personal and creative flair to the space.
The master bedroom and bathroom are designed to evoke warmth and relaxation, with deep red accents and wood veneer wallpaper enhancing the serene atmosphere.
In the Mercer Street Loft, the concept of an eclectic and artistic living space comes to fruition through the integration of found objects and collaborative art pieces. This approach not only personalized the loft but also ensured that it became a canvas for multiple artistic expressions, making the Mercer Street Loft a true testament to creative collaboration and design innovation.
