The design of this 5,600 square foot single family home in Santa Monica was rooted in a keen awareness of site and landscape and a dedication to sustainable architecture. Designed as a linear sequence, the house unfolds as a series of spaces that are completely open to the landscape.
The site is a deep, narrow, one-acre hillside property in Beverly Hills. The owners’ desires were to create an oasis that focused more on a sense of privacy and introspection rather than maximizing views or presenting an extroverted face to the neighborhood.
Tucked behind a massive ring of Ficus Nitida in a densely populated Hollywood neighborhood, the Hedge House exploits the privacy afforded by this unique and mature landscape element. This 30 yr-old hedge played a significant role in the decision to purchase the property.
Stormvillan is a Finnish house situated right at the heart of the historic villa district. The main floor opens out to three directions: The living room to a long view out to sea, the lounge west for sunsets across the dining terrace and the master bedroom takes in the junipers and wind blown pinetrees of the cliff it stands on.

The flat is located in a building from the 20’s. The project included revitalization and partial reconstruction of all rooms. The apartment is furnished with furniture designed and made by Loft Kolasinski: 2 chests of drawers, dining table, coffee table, kitchen table, bed and night tables.
Despite some bungalow-style additions to its verandah, the street-facing south elevation of this Parnell cottage/villa remained largely faithful to the original 1890s form. To the rear, however, a miscellany of additions and alterations in a variety of architectural styles, had extended the dwelling with consequential modification to the original villa roof-line.
The Marylebone apartment was affordable as it was still in its 1958 state — charming yet freezing — and the shower was a rubber contraption pushed over the bath taps. Easily solved you’d think with my experience of designing and refurbishing homes for clients, but life is not that simple.
