An old industrial building that used to serve as a warehouse and office space is situated directly at the Coolhaven in Rotterdam. Due to its concrete skeleton, the building has a typical industrial character from the 1950s of the Rotterdam reconstruction era.
Kenwood Lee House offered a rare opportunity; the client, a successful builder, was also the main contractor with an exceptional ability to interpret and deliver the architect’s design. Their mutual obsession with attention to detail proved instrumental in creating the family’s dream home.
This project began with two families purchasing a large Central Austin property and subdividing it into two narrow lots to build new homes on – we were hired to design one of the homes.
In the centre of Madrid, on the corner of Alberto Aguilera and San Bernardo, lies the emblematic building designed by Fernando Higueras that began to take shape in the 1950s, constructed from a single ubiquitous material: concrete.
The users are a multicultural couple of mature adults. The objective of the project was that the house will take advantage of the characteristics of the complex and that the open spaces will be part of the dynamics of daily use.
“As such, the design creates an inward-looking house with an external screen, which not only controls the sun but also views in and out of the house,” explains Han Loke Kwang, HYLA Architect’s Founder
House BRAS is located on a lush green site abutting a pond in the middle of an old allotment in the suburbs of Antwerp. The house is designed to blend into its surrounding natural landscape.
