Bates Masi Architects has renovated Far Pond house, a beautiful residence for one family, situated close to the water in Southampton, New York. Built in 1970, the house is oriented so it offers delightful and soothing views towards an estuary, a bay and ocean. The renovation involved keeping a large part of the current structure and supplementing it until the double size of the house has been reached. The old structure of the house and the manner in which it was built has determined the architects’ decision to opt for using a panel system.
This system uses prefabricated elements that solve many structural and spatial problems. It was also taken into account a sustainable approach and waste minimization by simplifying and reducing materials of the essential components, therefore eliminating typical construction waste. Thus, solid wood has been used in floors, walls and ceiling, and steel for stairs, windows and lighting. The abundance of wood that has been used gives a cottage rustic accent which compliments very well with the dominated decor by the coastal style. Far Pond house is the perfect residence for you to extract yourself from the bustle of the city, to relax and enjoy peace and nature. See more at Bates Masi Architects
