Meadow Beach House was designed in 2016 by Andrew Franz Architect. This new house on Martha’s Vineyard is conceived as a casual and comfortable modern cottage.
The home is inspired by the spirit of Victorian oceanside cottage vernacular with an overlay of Scandinavian modernism and responds to the sundrenched light and calming views of the beach and meadow. A casual and comfortable spirit is conveyed through simple, natural materials that will perform well in the coastal environment.
The house consists of two structures — connected at the second level and below grade – with a number of decks and a crow’s nest. The design employs passive environmental practices to achieve a highly energy-efficient solution and a well-crafted, high performing cottage for multiple generations.
