Urbano Zen Apartment, an exquisite residence designed by Naksh Design Studio, is located in the prestigious Carmichael Road area of Mumbai. The vision for this apartment was to create a multipurpose space that is light on the eye, simple, functional, and uncluttered. Shibani Mehta of Naksh Design Studio skillfully executed this vision, ensuring that every space is connected yet streamlined, resulting in a harmonious and flexible living environment.
Design Philosophy
The main design goal for Urbano Zen Apartment was to maximize the flexibility of the space. This was achieved through several innovative features such as sliding doors, a Murphy bed, and a flappable study table. By tucking wardrobes into a corner pocket, the space remains clutter-free, allowing the apartment to function as a bedroom at night and a den or family space during the day. The use of existing niches in the walls for concealed storage, combined with a Murphy mechanism, ensures a seamless and efficient look.
Overcoming Structural Challenges
One of the significant challenges faced during the renovation of Urbano Zen Apartment was dealing with crooked walls, a weak ceiling structure, and old flooring that required extensive rectifications. Shibani addressed these issues by paneling the structure with different thicknesses to achieve a straight and polished look. The predominant use of white P4-coated furniture creates a classy and cohesive aesthetic, with soft color breaks in furnishings, chair fabrics, and accessories to prevent the space from feeling overly sterile.
A Flexible and Uncluttered Space
The client’s desire for a seamless, open space that could adapt to various roles was adeptly translated into the design of Urbano Zen Apartment. The apartment features predominantly white interiors with splashes of color that can be added or subtracted according to mood, allowing it to blend or contrast with the rest of the space as needed. This approach not only enhances the visual appeal but also adds a layer of practicality and versatility to the living environment.
