From Rio de Janeiro, Sabugosa Arquitetura debuts at CASACOR São Paulo 2024 with the Steel House. This work captures the essence of the theme “From the present, now,” from its construction to the final decorative touches. In its 37th edition, the exhibition is based at Conjunto Nacional, one of São Paulo’s architectural icons, located on Avenida Paulista, and takes place between May 21 and July 28, 2024.

Inspiration and Concept

Inspired by the reflections of an editor, Gabriel Sabugosa created a space that reflects the essence of a true refuge. The concept intertwines the architectural design with the exhibition’s objective, promising an immersive and inspiring experience for architecture and interior design enthusiasts. The editor’s thoughts on the collaborative nature of editing and the creation of a book inspired the design, portraying the house as a spaceship, a personal refuge. “Editing is collaborating so that the voices of authors become public. Everything that starts as a dream and one day becomes a book. The book is like a ship that carries many stories and words. An editor is crossed by the narratives of others. She reads, listens, talks, reviews, diagrams, prints and circulates. It’s very good, whenever possible, to silence your own mind, take care of your concentration, because writing a book is a big undertaking. This house is your own spaceship”

Design and Layout

The Steel House spans a total area of 89m², with 40m² of built space, inviting contemplation and exploration of how time shapes our lives. The house features integrated and minimalist environments with comfort and practicality at the forefront. The layout includes a living room, kitchen, suite, and an external bathroom area. Curved walls and organic angles highlight modern architecture in every detail, including the joinery, benches, and selected furniture. A notable feature is the round window in the living room, providing a unique view of the Conjunto Nacional facade.

Atmosphere and Aesthetics

With a soft palette and neutral fabrics, the house creates a minimalist atmosphere, smoothly integrating important project pieces. An exclusive paper artwork by Thomaz Velho, installed above the bed, gives the space a unique identity. A curtain separates the bathroom from the bedroom, providing privacy and serving as a screen for an LG projector, allowing projections both inside and outside the house.

Construction Method

Using the Steelframe construction method by SteelCorp, the Steel House stands out for its efficiency, sustainability, and versatility. This method enables quick construction, water savings, and a lighter, more flexible structure. Remarkably, the house can be disassembled and rebuilt in other locations, demonstrating its fluidity.

Lighting and Materials

Natural light floods the environments, enhanced by the Profilit Glass facade and strategically placed windows. The Tauari Olho D’água floor by Akafloor adds natural finishes, showcasing the depth and plasticity unique to solid wood. These elements create a contemporary yet welcoming atmosphere, blending modern construction with natural and organic objects.

Conclusion

Gabriel Sabugosa’s Steel House at CASACOR São Paulo 2024 offers a contemporary environment that feels both modern and welcoming. The integration of natural light, efficient construction methods, and thoughtful design elements creates a complete and enriching experience for visitors. The Steel House reinterprets modern living, presenting a fluid and adaptable approach to contemporary architecture.
